Mabel was born July 10, 1924, in Junction City, KS the daughter of William John and Ora Mae (Laird) Hood. She has lived in the Junction City area most her entire life.

Mabel worked as a cafeteria worker for USD #475 for many years. She later volunteered for the Geary County Senior Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church, American Legion, Lions Club, Order of Eastern Star, Fraternal Order of Eagle's Auxiliary and the Troubadors.

She married Harold Kane April 2, 1943, Junction City, KS. He passed away August 11, 1998.

Other survivors include two sons, Harold Eugene Kane (Miki) of Gilbert, AZ, Steve Kane (Rosie) of Junction City, KS, three daughters, Pat Hartung of Junction City, KS, Sharon Booker (Russ) of Park City, KS and Kristin Rhyne (Marshall) of Junction City, KS. She is also survived by one sister, Mickey Hayes of Garland, TX, 13 grandchildren and 20 great -grandchildren.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, son Melvin, son-in-law, Danny Hartung, six brothers and five sisters.
