In Memory Of
Consuelo "Connie" Curley
1925 - 2016

Mrs. Consuelo “Connie” Curley died peacefully and on her own terms on July 1, 2016 in Junction City, KS at the age of 90.
Mrs. Curley is survived by her husband, 1st Sgt. (Ret), Albert Curley Sr. to who she was married for 74 years. She was the woman behind, beside and unbeknownst to him, at times, in front of him. She also leaves behind her son Albert Curley II. (Susan) Maryland, her brother Richard E. Wells (Betty Deceased) Orlando, FL, Grandchildren Albert Curley III (Nicole) California, Alex Curley (Jessica) Maryland, Adam Paul, Texas, Christine Weaver, New York, Jennifer Hales, Maryland, Marc Scott, Texas, Michael Scott (Rachel), NM, Andrea Scott, GA; 15 Great Grandchildren; many Nieces, Nephews; many Grand & Great Nieces, Nephews; and Cousins in GA, FL, MD, MI & CA.
She was preceded in death by her Parents Austin & Inez Wells formerly of Junction City KS; a younger brother Raymond Wells, Formerly of Junction City KS; her Sister Inez Hannon, formerly of Kansas City KS and her daughter Lorita Scott, Albuquerque, NM.
Consuelo was born in Junction City, KS on Nov 8, 1925, the eldest of 4 children. She was educated in Junction City and married to Albert Curley Sr. of Helena, Arkansas.
She had an active role in her local community and in various leadership positions in the 9th & 10th (Horse) Cavalry Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of Ward Chapel AME Church.
Consuelo was a leader and had a quiet but firm way of resolving conflicts or problems, until of course when she needed to threaten to “twist the ears” of her brothers to keep them in line. Even as her brothers grew up to be family men this threat held its power to bring calm to a situation. She provided guidance to younger members of the family and always had a “ I love you” at the end of the conversation. Her voice will be missed. She was a communicator, in the nearly forgotten way of writing a letter or a card. Her family, friend’s, members of the Ladies Auxiliary and the 9th & 10th (Horse) Cavalry Assoc. will miss the pleasure they experienced when one of her letters ended up in their mail. She was kind gracious elegant woman who will be greatly missed. She was a caring and gentle person who always had a kind word and encouragement for all.
The family will greet friends 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday July 6, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday July 7, 2016 at the funeral home, with Rev. Redo Purnell presiding. Interment will follow at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Ft. Riley, Manhattan. A reception to follow at the Mariott Hotel in Junction City.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate the home going of life of Consuelo Curley. If you choose, in lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to the Ninth and Tenth (Horse) Cavalry Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, Attention: Eunice Sumbler, 726 West Creek Drive, Clarksville TN 37040.
