Russel K. Altwegg, 88, of Chapman, passed away on October 16, 2023. Visitation with family and friends will be Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Zion United Church of Christ, located at 1811 McFarland Road, Junction City, KS 66441. Memorial service will follow the visitation with Pastor Erik Graefe officiating. Inurnment will be at Good Hope Cemetery, 3054 Sage Road, Chapman, KS. Memorials are suggested to Zion United Church of Christ.

Russel was born on October 6, 1935 in Junction City, KS to Kermit and Helen (Acker) Altwegg. He graduated from Dickinson County Chapman High School, Class of 1953. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, lifelong farmer, and conservationist.

He enjoyed all aspects of nature, watching the sun come up and the wildlife in the fields, and leaving a place for them to live and populate. Russel served on the Church Board, Chapman Valley Manor Board, and was awarded the Young Farmer of the Year for Dickinson County in 1965. He drove a school bus for the Chapman District for 38 years. He loved his family and loved watching them achieve their goals in life. He enjoyed attending his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren's events.

Russel married Sally Odle May 18, 1958; they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year.

Russel is survived by his loving Wife, Sally of Chapman, KS; his four children, Steve (Susanne) Altwegg of Chapman, KS, Scott (Tammy) Altwegg of Junction City, KS, Eric (Amy) Altwegg of Abilene, KS, and Angela (Jim) Letourneau of Edmond, OK; thirteen grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
